Tarte aux tomatoes is a simple Italian dish made with 4 ingredients. It is perfect for last minute guests as a casserole dish. Very simple to make yet delicious to eat.Below is the recipe for this finger licking cheesy dish.


  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose Flour
  • 8 tsp Unsalted Butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  •  1 cup cheddar cheese grated
  • 2 large tomatoes sliced horizontally
  •  Salt to taste
  •  ½ tsp Pepper
  • ½ cup fresh basil
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp small sun dried tomatoes
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese




Preheat oven to 350°F.

Put flour in the bowl and add butter / margarine. Mix it well then add cold water to knead soft dough.

Wrap in/cover with plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Sprinkle the board with flour and roll out dough to make a 13-inch round pastry.

Place pastry in an 11-inch tart pan and roll up the edges like a pizza.

Prick bottom of pastry with a fork.  Spread the grated cheddar cheese over the bottom to cover.

Now add sun dried tomatoes and fresh basil leaves.

Sprinkle some mozzarella cheese over tomatoes and basil leaves.

At the top add sliced tomatoes – if tomatoes are juicy, pat dry with paper towel first or let drain on paper towels.

Sprinkle salt and pepper the tomatoes and Drizzle the tart with olive oil.

Bake for 1 hour, or keep a check until pastry is golden.

Serve immediately.
